Job Overview

The successful candidate will operate as a member of the corporate mechanical engineering department team. Responsibilities include the mechanical design of server rack platforms, outdoor cabinet enclosures, and consumer mobile device test platforms for test.

Daily responsibilities include working with product core team, industrial design team, and mechanical engineering design team members to implement product mechanical design approach, detail design, thermal simulations, successful tooling and fabrication effort, successful product testing effort, and smooth manufacturing transition.

This successful candidate will need to effectively communicate across Geo’s (USA, India, China, and EU) both verbally and written on a weekly basis. They will also be required to work onsite a minimum of 2-3 days a week and possibly more as the company transitions past the Covid19.

Skills/Experience

    • 3+ years actively involved in mechanical engineering packaged design.
    • 3+ 3D solid modelling design tools experience utilizing Proe/Creo or equivalent tool.
    • 3+ years’ experience working on mechanical constraints for PCBs into a packaged design or test platform.
    • Packaged design experience utilizing plastic injection molded parts, Die Cast, Sheet metal parts, 3d printed, and CNC machined parts.
    • Wire and cable harness design fundamentals for platform electrical interconnects.
    • Stack up tolerance analysis of complex design assemblies.
    • Understanding of Antenna design, RF, Thermal and ID constraint requirements that influence form factor designs.
    • Effectively communicate with teams across Geo’s (USA, India, China and EU).

Additional Skills

    • Fundamental understanding of heat transfer in electromechanical enclosures with intermediate thermal mitigation design skills.
    • Robust understanding of mechanical engineering design fundamentals applied to electronics packaging.
    • Understanding of fabrication methods, including CNC, Sheetmetal, Plastic Injection molding, Die Casting and 3D printing.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Tolerance stack-up analysis of complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
    • Good understanding of antenna design, RF, thermal and industrial design constraint requirements for form factor designs.
    • Top-Down solid modelling strategy for organizing 3D database design parameters.
    • Expected to possess a strong understanding of mechanical engineering and analysis fundamentals.
    • Experience with circuit board assembly layout design constraints including connector placement, board design, EMN/EMP file creation, and collaboration with electrical PCB CAD design team.
    • Advanced mechanical design experience using 3D CAD tools (CREO preferred).
    • Test and assembly platform fixture design.
    • Experience with PDM systems (Agile preferred) for BOM and project management.
    • History designing forced-air and convection thermal dissipation solutions for consumer mobile, test rack, and outdoor infrastructure electro-mechanical platforms.
    • Background working with RF/antenna, baseband, EMI regulatory, thermal, and product management teams in developing system-level mechanical enclosure concepts.
    • Experience specifying appropriate components for specific form factor packaged designs.
    • Experience optimizing design tradeoffs through multi-disciplinary team collaboration and the results of analytical simulations.
    • Demonstrated success working with electrical hardware teams and mfg. engineering to satisfy key product requirements, schedule, and program budgets.
    • Solid understanding of design, fabrication and procurement fundamentals for CNC, injection molded, 3d printed, die-cast, and stamped metal parts.
    • Understands project goals and individual responsibility toward meeting said goals.
    • Effectively communicates with project peers, mfg. engineering, and program leadership via e-mail, meetings (virtual and onsite), and instant messaging including status reports and illustrative presentation slides.
    • Collaborates regularly with other corporate mechanical engineers to share optimal product development processes and to facilitate schedule execution.
    • Effectively multitasks and meets aggressive schedules in a dynamic design environment.
    • Prepares and delivers detailed design reviews to the complete project team.
