The Operations Cost Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of product cost structures and supporting manufacturing operations through cost analysis, Bill of Materials (BOM) validation, manufacturing routing reviews, assessment of the financial impact of engineering changes, and production variance analysis.

This position works closely with Engineering, Production, Planning, Purchasing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure that standard costs accurately reflect the companys operating conditions and support effective decision-making.

Duties and Responsibilities

Cost and Product Structure Management

  • Review and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure product cost accuracy.

  • Validate component quantities, material costs, scrap factors, units of measure, and conversions.

  • Perform financial analyses related to Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).

  • Coordinate with Engineering, Production, and Planning to ensure the timely implementation of changes to product structures.

  • Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) activities by preparing preliminary costing and profitability analyses.

  • Perform cost roll-ups to validate the impact of changes in materials or manufacturing processes.

Product Costing Accuracy

  • Understand cost variances and the key factors that influence the companys product costs.

  • Perform detailed cost analyses and develop a standardized operational review process.

  • Evaluate contribution margins to determine the actual cost and profitability of products.

  • Review Bills of Materials, manufacturing routings, overhead rates, yield rates, and purchased raw material prices.

  • Prepare product cost calculations and profitability analyses.

  • Review and validate manufacturing routings to ensure the accuracy of standard times, labor requirements, setup times, and production operations.

Manufacturing Variance Analysis

  • Analyze Material Usage Variances.

  • Investigate variances related to waste, scrap, rework, and production losses.

  • Analyze Purchase Price Variances (PPV).

  • Monitor labor and manufacturing overhead variances.

  • Identify the root causes of significant variances and recommend corrective actions in collaboration with operations teams.

  • Prepare variance reports for Operations and Finance management.

Inventory

  • Use data, analysis, and business insight to help maintain healthy inventory levels for the company.

  • Analyze inventory turnover by product and identify improvement opportunities within the specific supply chain context of each product.

  • Lead physical inventory counts, reviews, and analyses.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Understand and explain manufacturing variances reflected in the monthly income statement and recommend any operational changes required to address them.

  • Develop and standardize metrics and collaborate with the different sites to drive expected results.

  • Monitor variable costs to ensure they do not outpace volume trends.

  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analyses as requested by management.

Financial Support

  • Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and dashboards to help supervisors, leaders, and non-financial managers understand significant cost trends.

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to track raw material costs and monitor their financial impact.

  • Support freight and tariff analysis, as well as forecasting models.

  • Improve and maintain the tracking and forecasting of capital expenditures.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

  • Over five years of cost accounting experience within the manufacturing industry.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and cost accounting concepts.

  • Experience with inventory management and product costing in SAP ERP.

  • Ability to efficiently manage large datasets and analytical results.

  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in financial modeling and dashboard development.

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and SAP.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.

  • Advanced proficiency in English is required
