Senior Maintenance Equipment Technician

Location: Otay, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico

About the Role

The Senior Maintenance Equipment Technician is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and continuous operation of automated manufacturing equipment. This position plays a key role in equipment installation, troubleshooting, preventive and predictive maintenance, process optimization, and production support. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with automation systems and a strong ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for production equipment, including installation, setup, tooling adjustments, troubleshooting, repairs, and commissioning activities.

  • Perform corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance on automated manufacturing equipment to maximize uptime and equipment reliability.

  • Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns, alarms, and production interruptions, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable corrective actions.

  • Support production ramp-ups by stabilizing new automation equipment and driving improvements in equipment performance, efficiency, and throughput (UPH).

  • Monitor equipment health and identify recurring issues to reduce downtime and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

  • Assist in the introduction of new manufacturing equipment, including installation, qualification, commissioning, and acceptance activities.

  • Maintain and manage spare parts inventories, recommending replenishment and ensuring critical components are readily available.

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to support continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization.

  • Develop and follow equipment maintenance procedures, standard work instructions, and safety guidelines.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, machine guarding requirements, inspection standards, and 6S practices.

Qualifications

  • Technical degree, vocational certification, or equivalent experience in Mechatronics, Electromechanical Technology, Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in automation equipment maintenance within a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong hands-on experience in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of automated production equipment.

  • Experience with equipment installation, startup, commissioning, and process validation activities.

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, pneumatic diagrams, mechanical schematics, and equipment documentation.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks and perform under pressure in a high-volume production environment.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience with automated assembly equipment, including three-axis and four-axis motion systems, point teaching, setup, and equipment adjustments.

  • Knowledge of material handling systems, feeders, magazines, conveyors, and auxiliary automation equipment.

  • Experience supporting Zebra printers, barcode scanners, labeling systems, and production traceability equipment.

  • Familiarity with automatic screw fastening systems and automated feeding equipment.

  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills involving PLC-controlled equipment, sensors, motors, solenoid valves, relays, switches, and industrial wiring.

  • Ability to perform mechanical assembly, alignment, calibration, and component replacement activities.

  • Experience implementing preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

  • Understanding of manufacturing KPIs, including OEE, downtime reduction, and equipment availability metrics.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement methodologies, and 6S practices.

  • Experience supporting high-volume automated manufacturing environments is highly preferred.
