Purpose and Scope of Position

The Production Manager  Owns manufacturing execution and leadership alignment across all three shifts. This role leads first-shift production directly and provides direction, accountability, and process discipline for second- and third-shift supervisors. The focus is not daily line work; the focus is building leaders, holding standards, protecting flow, and improving processes through lean thinking. The ideal candidate is a strong floor leader with manufacturing experience and preferred exposure to digital printing, dye sublimation, decoration, or Screen print decoration methods.

Leadership Scope

  • Lead second shift production teams directly and set the operating standard for the full manufacturing floor.
  • Own shift handoffs so safety, quality, staffing, schedule attainment, and open issues are visible and acted on.
  • Develop supervisors who can lead people, solve problems, use data, and sustain standards without constant escalation.

Key Outcomes

Safety / GMP / 5S A safe, clean, disciplined floor where GMP, safety rules, and 5S are followed without daily chasing.

Quality Strong QC adherence, fewer escapes, faster containment, and root-cause follow-up when defects occur.

Delivery / Flow Better schedule attainment, throughput, handoffs, labor efficiency, and problem escalation across all shifts.

People Leadership Supervisors who understand expectations, get coached, and are held accountable for results.

Continuous Improvement Lean improvements that are data-based, implemented, audited, and sustained.

Core Responsibilities

1. Lead production execution across all three shifts.

  • Own the second-shift production plan and align priorities with second- and third-shift supervisors.
  • Run daily and weekly leader huddles, review KPIs, remove barriers, and communicate clear handoffs.
  • Ensure staffing, training, materials, equipment, work instructions, and priorities are ready before work starts.

2. Build accountability through supervisors.

  • Set clear expectations for supervisors, team leads, and production teams.
  • Conduct regular one-on-ones with supervisors; coach performance, document follow-up, and address repeated misses.
  • Hold leaders accountable for safety, quality, attendance, productivity, standard work, and shift handoffs.

3. Strengthen process discipline.

  • Ensure SOPs, standard work, visual controls, and quality checks are current and followed.
  • Audit processes on the floor and correct drift before it becomes rework, late orders, or quality escapes.
  • Partner with Quality, Maintenance, Scheduling, Warehouse, and other managers to protect flow and solve cross-functional issues.

4. Drive lean improvement.

  • Use data, Gemba observation, 5S, root-cause analysis, and visual management to improve throughput and reduce waste.
  • Lead improvement projects from problem definition through sustainment.
  • Develop supervisors who can identify problems, lead countermeasures, and keep improvements in place.

5. Support print and manufacturing technical performance.

  • Understand critical inputs in digital print and decoration processes; work with technical experts to improve setup, quality, uptime, and repeatability.
  • Digital printing, dye sublimation, UV print, pad print, screen print, or similar decoration process experience is preferred, not required.
  • Use process knowledge to ask better questions, catch weak signals early, and help teams solve recurring production issues.

Leadership Expectations

  • Strong floor presence; leads by standards, not by personality.
  • Direct, respectful communication; addresses issues early instead of letting them become culture.
  • Uses facts, data, and observation before opinions.
  • Balances people development with clear accountability.
  • Comfortable leading change and building supervisor capability across multiple shifts.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of manufacturing or production leadership experience, or equivalent.
  • Experience leading supervisors or team leads, not only individual contributors.
  • Demonstrated ability to use metrics to manage production performance.
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, standard work, and root-cause problem solving.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, coaching, and follow-up skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office/Excel or similar reporting capability.

Preferred Experience

  • Digital printing, dye sublimation, print production, promotional products, packaging, or high-mix manufacturing.
  • Multi-shift manufacturing leadership.
  • GMP or regulated production environment.
  • Visual management, tier meetings, SQDC boards, or continuous improvement project management.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Education and Training

  • Associate degree preferred, or equivalent manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, supervisor leadership, or similar training preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Works primarily on the production floor with regular movement through production, warehouse, and office areas.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be available as needed to support shift handoffs, escalations, and leader development across all shifts.
