Position Summary

The Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring that manufacturing processes comply with the required quality standards for the fabrication of harnesses and lanyards (fall protection equipment). This role will directly supervise a team of at least 2 Quality Auditors, ensuring the correct execution of control plans and sampling plans across the marking, cutting, sewing, and final assembly areas. This position is key to providing production support, leading failure analysis, and managing the correct flow of non-conforming material (MRB).

Requirements & Technical Profile

  • Education:
    • Engineering Student (mid-way through the program / with fixed schedule availability) or Incomplete Engineering Degree.
    • Associate Degree (Tecnico Superior Universitario) in manufacturing-related fields.
    • Preferred Degree Options: Industrial Engineering, Textile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Quality Management Engineering.
    •
  • Work Experience: 2-3 years in manufacturing plants with industrial sewing, mechanical assembly, or harness assembly processes (preferably technical textiles, automotive, or personal protective equipment).
  •
  • Proficiency in Measurement Tools:
    • Digital Calipers and Micrometers (for critical hardware and metal components dimensions).
    • Thread Counters & Magnifiers / Lupe Scopes (for stitch density, stitch pattern verification, and web inspection).
    • Force Gauges / Push-Pull Gauges (for checking activation forces on hooks or shock absorbers).
    • Precision Rulers and Tape Measures (for strict length specifications on lanyards and harness straps).
    • Tensile & Destruction Testing Machines (Highly valued / Plus – for verifying the breaking strength of webbings, threads, and stitched joints).
    •
  • Essential Technical Knowledge:
    • Problem-solving tools and root cause analysis (8D Methodology, 5 Whys, Ishikawa Diagram).
    • Management and administration of sampling plans (AQL Tables / ANSI/ASQ Z1.4).
    • Development and monitoring of Control Plans and acceptance/rejection criteria.
    • Knowledge and control of the MRB process (Material Review Board) and segregation of non-conforming material.
    • Participation in process audits and internal audits under quality management systems (ISO standards).
    • Response, documentation, and follow-up on Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
    • Customer complaint management and follow-up on material supplier quality issues.
    • Basic knowledge of statistics (control charts, process capability) and Lean tools (5S, Visual Control, Poka-Yokes).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate the daily activities of the assigned quality auditors.
  • Provide technical support and training to production personnel regarding quality standards and shop floor acceptance/rejection criteria.
  • Ensure first-article inspection (FAI) approval and process audits across marking, cutting, sewing, and assembly lines.

Process & Product Control

  • Implement and monitor control plans and statistical sampling plans on the production lines.
  • Establish and standardize acceptance/rejection criteria (visual and dimensional) for critical seams, assemblies, and hardware using the required measurement tools.
  • Manage the MRB process, ensuring proper segregation, identification, and timely disposition of non-conforming material to mitigate escape risks.

Quality Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Execute process and internal audits focused on maintaining the plant's ISO system.
  • Provide rapid response and follow-up to ensure the effective closure of corrective and preventive actions derived from audits or process failures.
  • Address customer complaints, performing product failure analysis and coordinating immediate containment actions on the manufacturing lines.
  • Evaluate and follow up on quality issues with suppliers, ensuring that incoming materials meet all technical specifications.
